Determining Your Door Details
Most doors are available in standard sizes, with exterior entry doors commonly measuring either 34" or 36" in width and 80" in height. When estimating the required frame and door size, it is important to remember that the door frame must also be installed to facilitate opening, closing, and locking the door. As a general rule, 2" is added to both the top and bottom measurements to calculate the overall frame plus door size. For instance, a 36" x 80" door would require an overall frame size of 38" x 82". We recommend measuring the total rough opening size to ensure ease of installation, taking into account the additional 2" required for the frame.
